Because people usually stay there for hours ... The heavens were opened? Like a door or a window? And the Spirit of God, solidified into a dove, came out of this opening in the sky and flew down to Earth?

I love this bit of Mark - it implies an Adoptionistic view of Jesus. That is, that he was just a normal guy until he was baptised, then he received his super powers and mission from God (hence the dove descending into him). Kind of like the way spiderman got bitten by the radioactive spider, but with slightly less swinging around buildings.
